A recent Canadian study into why men and women gamble shows distinct gender specific differences. According to Dr Heather Chalmers, a Brock University researcher;
Women
* gamble for social reasons
* are less likely to indulge in high risk gambling
* are more likely to play Bingo, lotteries and slots.
Men
* see high risk gambling as more masculine or macho
* like to demonstrate that they are in control
* are more likely to bet their prized possessions, drugs, smokes, girlfriends, stocks and bonds
According to Dr. Chalmers "males were betting their girlfriends, so we included sexual favors in the list".
Men were more likely to bet on the horses. Bingo was the only form of gambling where the women outnumber the men.
Men gamble to win while the ladies gamble for fun, a reason to hang out with friends.
I have to tell you, I play poker against almost as many women as men. The women I play against are hardcore poker players, they're in it to win!
